Legionnaires honored at South Paris meeting

PARIS – Two special certificates from the State Department of the American Legion were announced at the April 12 supper meeting of the South Paris American Legion Post 72 and Auxiliary.

John Titus and Walter Brown have been continuous members of the Foster-Carroll Post for 60 years and were awarded the certificates in recognition of their loyalty and contributions to the Legion.

The Auxiliary has achieved 100 percent membership plus four with 127 members. The charter was draped with ceremony in memory of Hilja Komulainen. Peggy Turner was welcomed as the newest member. Flowers and cards were sent to members Pat Dyer and Elsie Pechnik, who have been recent surgery patients.

Joyce Linindoll announced that delegates to Girls State are Andrea Fitts and Whitney Linindoll; alternates, Emily LaVine and Tina Pratt.

Poppy Days will be held at area stores on Friday, May 5 and 12, and Saturday, May 6. Donations will help area veterans and families in times of distress and serious illness.

Installation of new officers will take place on Wednesday, May 10. Installing officers will be Ethel Lacourse, Ellie-Anne Rogers and Kay Moulton.

The unit approved the following: dues to go up to $15; Special Olympics, $50; Project Graduation, $10; Pine Tree Camp for Crippled Children, $20; American Legion baseball team, $75; and Girls State fees.
