Legislative candidates to square off in debate next Tuesday


PARIS — Local candidates for the Legislature will square off in a debate hosted by the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce next Tuesday.  

It’s set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 21 in the forum at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School on Route 26.

Each candidate will be given two minutes for opening remarks before the moderator asks questions candidates will have received the day before.

The moderator is high school senior class President Harry Linfield.   
One question will come from the high school civics class and the rest from the Oxford County Republican and Democratic parties. All candidates will be given 90 seconds to respond.
Halfway through the evening, audience members will be given the opportunity to submit questions, which will be asked at the moderator’s discretion.
Each candidate will have one minute for closing remarks.
The following candidates will be represented:
* Senate District 18 — Sen. John Patrick, D-Rumford, and Republican Joseph Martin of Rumford.
* Senate District 19 — Democrat Rose Rogers-Wells of Brownfield and Sen. James Hamper, R-Oxford.
* House District 71 — Democrat Dennise Whitley of Norway and Rep. Tom Winsor, R-Norway.
* House District 72 — Democrat James Bradley of Mechanic Falls and Republican Kathleen J. Dillingham of Oxford. 
* House District 73 — Democrat Robert Kircherr of Paris and Republican Lloyd Herrick of Paris.
