1930 – 2014
ROXBURY — Leo J. Gallant, 84, of Main Street in Roxbury, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, at his residence with his loving family at his side, following a long illness.
He was born in Rumford on Jan. 3, 1930, a son of Antoine “Tony” and Katherine (Gaudet) Gallant.
Leo married Merlene (Binette) on Sept. 23, 1950, and they celebrated 59 years of marriage together. She passed away in 2009.
Leo and his son, David, founded Gallant’s Discount Furniture in Roxbury in 1976.
Leo was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, a life member of the Elks and a member of the American Legion. He proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1948 to 1969. He loved traveling and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Leo was loved by all who knew him and always put the needs of others before his own.
Surviving are his son, David and fianceé, Elizabeth Donahue, of Roxbury; daughter, Joyce and husband, Patrick Walsh, of Roxbury; three sisters, Doris Jenson, Esther McPhee and husband, Ernie, and Ann Cronin and husband, Bill; two brothers, Ivon Gallant and wife, Irene, and Louis Gallant and wife, Saundra; and grandchildren, Evan Leo Walsh and fiancé, Lindsey Mumm, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Nicholas David Gallant of Roxbury.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Merlene; and a brother-in-law, Pete.
