Leonide “Blackie” Arsenault


RUMFORD – A Mass of Christian Burial for Leonide “Blackie” Arsenault of Roxbury Pond was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at St. Athanasius-St. John Church, with the Rev. Angelo LeVasseur as celebrant.

Organist was Mark Belanger. Fiddler was Jim Roy. Guitarist Elaine Michaud sang “Always.” Readings were done by Sally Arsenault and Jim Wendt. Eulogies were given by Sylvia Wendt and Leo Arsenault.

Military honors were presented by VFW Post 3335, American Legion Post 10, AMVETS Post 33 and Sons of AMVETS Squadron 33.

Firing squad: Richard Dupont, Cpt. SOA.

Honor guards: Raoul Laplante, Legionair; Greg McDonald, AMVET; Robert Welsh, VFW; Gerry Toothaker, AMVET; Joe Groomes, SOA; Cleon Cook, VFW; Richard Moreau, SOA; Harvey Sabin, VFW and Legionair; Robert Roy, SOA; and Bill Therrien, SOA.

Flag presenters: Dan Cote, SOA; Deree Simoneau, VFW and Legionair; Don Leseur, VFW and Legionair; and Ron Theriault, U.S. Coast Guard Reserves.

A reception followed at the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion in Rumford.
