I’ll have the letter ‘p,’ please, as in pick me to be a contestant on ‘Wheel of Fortune’

YARMOUTH – The “Wheel of Fortune’s” Wheelmobile, the popular TV show’s promotional vehicle, will be at the Yarmouth Clam Festival Friday, July 20, as part of a search for potential game players.

The festival, running July 20, 21 and 22, offers competitions, from a 1-mile fun run to a clam shucking contest to a canoe and kayak race; entertainment, from magic and juggling to barbershop-style harmony to rock ‘n’ roll karaoke to bluegrass to traditional country; children’s events, from story hour to face-painting to a carnival by Smokey’s Greater Shows; horse and wagon rides; an antique show and sale; duck boat tours; contra dancing; a block party; fireworks; and more.

Fans of the popular syndicated series will have the opportunity to fill out an application, have his or her name drawn at random to play a simulated version of the game onstage, win prizes and be evaluated as a potential contestant for the broadcast version of the show.

Staff members from the “Wheel of Fortune” promotions team will begin handing out applications one hour before each show begins. They are on the lookout for energetic, enthusiastic and fun contestants. Searches will be held at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1 and 2:30 p.m., with each show lasting about an hour. This will take place at the tent near North Yarmouth Academy in the downtown.

“The Wheelmobile tour gives us the opportunity to present local viewers with a unique and personal experience with the show. It’s a way for us to thank our viewers for their long-term support, and for making the show No. 1,” said Executive Producer Harry Friedman in a prepared statement.

Since its inception in 1999, the Wheelmobile has logged more than 200,000 miles and visited 150-plus cities.

“Wheel of Fortune” airs at 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday on WMTW-TV. For more information, log on to www.wmtw.com or visit www.wheeloffortune.com.
