Lewis B. Soper Jr.


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – “Lew” Soper of West Minot, died Tuesday, April 18, in Bakersfield, Calif., with his wife by his side, after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewisburg, Pa., May 17, 1944, son of Sarah and Lewis Baker Soper. He attended college at the University of Colorado, where he met his sweetheart, Bonnie Dore, whom he married in 1966, with whom he had two children.

He worked at the Dunlap Agency in Auburn for over 15 years and then at Maine Medical Mutual in Portland for five years, until his recent illness.

He enjoyed solitary time fly-fishing and bird watching, camping, hiking and kayaking with his wife and their friends. He was actively involved with the Stanton Bird Club as a trip leader and as a member of the Stewardship Committee and Board of Directors from 1994 to 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marcie Soper of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Hillary and David Strong of Keene, N.H.; grandchildren, Lisa, Luigi, Katherine, John and Molly Soper and Katilynn, Marin and Kylan Strong; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Jaycene Soper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Tom.
