Safe lifting

AUBURN — Dawn Gilbert, PT, MSM, of St. Mary’s Center for Physical Rehabilitation, will offer a hands-on instructional session about safe lifting techniques at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25. The session will take place in the lobby of the St. Mary’s Campus, corner of Gracelawn and Turner streets.

Gilbert will also discuss how to apply the concepts and techniques when performing everyday tasks such as housekeeping, raking, shoveling, gardening and working. Light refreshments will be served. For reservations, call 753-5465.

Poets society

WATERVILLE — The Maine Poets Society will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at the Fireside Inn Suites, 356 Main St. A $13 registration fee includes lunch.

After a business meeting, member judge Woody Woodsum will critique society members’ poems on “Simplicity,” then read from his own work. Following lunch, guest judge Wesley McNair will critique members’ pantoums.

Bottle drive

SABATTUS — Girls Scouts of Maine, Troop 2431, will hold a bottle drive on Saturday, May 22, to raise funds for a planned trip to New York City. The Cadette/Senior troop will collect bottles between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 151 Middle Road. Bottles may also be picked up on request by calling 375-4732.

Sale donations

LEWISTON — A yard sale will be held from Thursday to Saturday, May 20 to 22, at Central Maine Christian Academy, 390 Main St. The school is seeking donations of items in good condition to be sold at the sale. Those wishing to make a donation may call 713-4931 to set up a drop off time.

Distribution day

AUBURN — Auburn AC Serve, a part of Serve New England’s food and volunteer program, will have Distribution Day from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, 263 Turner St.,  Whitney Street entrance. Registrations for April also will be taken. New participants in the Serve, formerly SHARE, program are welcome.

Society meeting

NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, Intervale Road, next to the Town Hall. The gathering will be a business meeting to discuss the upcoming Strawberry Festival, the society’s yard sale and the reopening of the History Barn. Members are encouraged to attend.
