Lewiston candidate forum tonight

LEWISTON – The four candidates on the Feb. 27 ballot for mayor are expected at a candidate forum Tuesday night, according to the chamber of commerce.

The forum is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Room 170 at Lewiston-Auburn College.

Moderator Chip Morrison, president of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, encouraged people who plan to attend to think up good questions for the candidates.

“I really want to challenge them, to see what they think,” Morrison said.

Each candidate will have three minutes for an opening statement, then Morrison will take audience questions, written on note cards, for an hour.

The mayoral candidates are City Councilor Normand Rousseau, former police chief Larry Gilbert, School Committee member Leah Poulin and perennial candidate Charles Soule.

The Multi-Purpose Center will be the only polling place for the Feb. 27 ballot, which also will include a referendum on borrowing $21 million to build a new Pettingill School.
