LEWISTON — The Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way, Lewiston, continues its monthly programming, including workshops for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase the employability.
Every Monday at 1 p.m., the Unemployed Professionals Group meets to support un- and under-employed professionals. Each week a guest speaker from the business community addresses the group on a topic related to personal or professional development or job search skills. Speakers for the month are: May 3, open forum with Cher Tyra, business service representative, Western Maine Community Action; May 10, “Fulfilling Your Purpose in Life and Career,” Jacqueline Murphy, career counselor/consultant; May 17, “Staying Motivated in Your Job Search,” Mary Kozicki LaFontaine, manager, Lewiston CareerCenter; May 24, “Creating Breakthrough Thinking,” Marylin Newell, Maine Seminars; no meeting May 31.
The F.O.C.U.S. Group meets every Tuesday at 2 p.m. Like the Unemployed Professionals Group, it is a facilitated networking opportunity for job search and also has guest speakers at each meeting to assist job seekers as they consider all options for their job search. Speakers for May are: May 4, “The Secret of the Successful Interview,” Kurk Lalemand, Next Level Business Coaching; May 11, “The Dempsey Challenge,” Wendy Tardiff, Central Maine Medical Center; May 18, “Surviving Unemployment-Part I, Understanding Food Labels, Groceries on A Budget,” Eric Thoreson, University of Maine Cooperative Extension; May 25, “Surviving Unemployment-Part II, Nutrition — What, Where and Why,” Eric Thoreson.
The Industry Information Tuesday is scheduled for May 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. and will feature Tourism and Hospitality Jobs. Area employers and training institutions will be on hand to help job seekers learn more about the jobs available and training opportunities that may be required for some jobs. Registration is required for this event.

“CareerCenter Training Orientation,” call the CareerCenter for the schedule and to register.
“Essentials of College Planning for Adults,” May 12 or 26, begins at 10 a.m. and lasts 2-3 hours. Bring last year’s income tax forms. Registration required.
An adult education representative is available May 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Call for availability.

In addition to workshops held at the CareerCenter, the Lewiston CareerCenter is partnering with the Auburn Public Library to hold “Job Search Skills” and “Resumé and Interview Skills” workshops at the APL. “Job Search Skills” will be held May 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.
