LEWISTON — Dr. Mitchell Auster is introducing a dental assisting course at his new office at 1065 Lisbon St.
The course was developed by Auster’s staff, his dental hygienist Angela Additon and expanded functions dental assistant Amanda Sasseville. The purpose of the course is to offer an entry into a dental career. Before the course was offered, the closest location for a dental assisting course was either Bangor or Portland.
Additon is a registered dental hygienist who started her career as a dental assistant. She currently holds a bachelor of science degree and is attending classes preparing her for enrollment in the University of New England’s Dental School of Medicine in 2012. She also teaches dental radiology courses at York County Community College. She is married and has two children.
Sasseville is a graduate of Lewiston High School and worked in a dental office in Bangor for three years while completing her education as a certified dental assistant. She attended York County Community College and became certified as an expanded functions dental assistant. She relocated to Lewiston to be with her family.
Auster’s facility will be used for part of the course curriculum. Students will receive hands-on experience with digital X-rays, intraoral cameras, infection control, instrumentation and all other functions needed to become a dental assistant.
