Library to conduct kids’ theater auditions

RUMFORD – The Rumford Public Library will hold auditions for the Summer Fest Children’s Theatre presentation, “Dude, Where’s My Planet?,” at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at the library.

Theater professional Nancy O. DeMilner, back for an eighth season as director of the children’s theater, has written an original script for this year’s presentation.

“Dude, Where’s My Planet?” is an action-packed adventure that takes place sometime in the future. A group of students from Earth and their teacher, along with parent chaperones, are taking a class field trip to the moon.

It is felt that a field trip to the moon is far safer than one to Philadelphia. However, things go awry, and the students encounter aliens, good and bad. Will they be able to find their way home again?

The play has 12 main characters, with a total of 25 speaking parts, and includes singing and dancing. Participation in children’s theater is free and open to all children in the area, ages 5 to 15. Older teens interested in backstage work are also welcome.

Auditions will consist of acting warm-ups, group singing and dancing, and a discussion of production details and responsibilities, followed by individual line readings and solo auditions for those interested in major roles.

Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, June 6, and will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. throughout June and July. A commitment to attend all rehearsals is essential.

Afternoon and evening performances of the show are planned for Thursday, July 27. For more information, call the Rumford Public Library at 364-3661.
