Library expansion in West Paris nears completion

WEST PARIS — In a report to selectmen last Thursday, library trustee Janet Fournier told the board things are going very well with the libray’s new addition.

“We have picked up several volunteers and could use more,” Fournier said. “With the larger size our addition gives, our librarian Patti Makely needs more help. So we welcome all who would like to help.”

The new addition opened in March and doubled the size of the library. It houses a children’s reading room, community meeting room, storage space and more computer access.

The addition also meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and final plans are under way to finish the handicapped access, Fournier said.

“We are getting the unloading zone for van access completed and soon it will be ready, giving us total accessibility as vans will be able to unload wheelchairs for patrons,” Fournier said. “We do still need some funding to finish that project and we have several fundraisers planned. Among those are basket bingo, raffles and used book sales. We also will be happy to accept donations at any time.”

She also announced that a party for all the volunteers who made the addition possible would be held Wednesday, July 21.
