Library Friends looking for help


POLAND – The Ricker Memorial Library Friends kicked off the annual membership drive this month and have set a goal of at least 170 members pledging $5 a month/$60 to earn $10,000 that could be put toward library programs.

All types of donations, monetary, items, volunteering or baking, would be appreciated. Call 998-4390 for details. The Friends is a nonprofit corporation that provides fundraising services to the library.

The Friends sponsor such programs as the annual children’s summer reading program, concert by classical guitarist Peter Fletcher, passes to the Maine Wildlife Park and the purchase of a magnetic easel for the preschool storytime.

The Friends hold fundraising events throughout the year, but most comes from patrons. The summer children’s reading program is under way until July 26. A pajama story hour with Jennifer Bourget will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday.

The Friends yard sale will take place Sept. 22. Residents can bring their goods to sell and give a percentage to the library. On Sept. 29.

Community Day friends book and bake sale will take place and an auction will be held on March 8. Friend need donated items and services.

Maine Wildlife Park passes are good for up to seven people, who only have to pay $1 a person.

The group needs recycled cell phones and ink cartridges and a box is provided. All proceeds benefit the Friends-sponsored library programs. They also need “celebrity readers” to help establish a second preschool storytime and programs for school-age children during February and April school vacation week.

Members also need help making cloth book covers/carriers as part of a yearlong fundraising project.
