Lilac Lap 5K Race to be run on Memorial Day in Paris

PARIS – The McLaughlin Foundation has announced the third annual Lilac Lap 5K Race will take place at 8 a.m. Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, at the McLaughlin Garden, Main Street, South Paris. The race is part of annual Memorial Weekend Lilac Festival held at the McLaughlin Garden.

This year’s race is open to runners of all ages, with awards in the following categories: age 14 and under, 15 to 19 years, 20 to 39 years, 40 to 49 years, and 50+ years. The first 100 preregistrants will receive a T-shirt with their entry fee of $10/$5 for participants 14 and under. Race day registration will close at 7:30 a.m. with an entry fee of $15/$8.

Walkers are also welcome to register and join in the festivities. Walkers will start out on the course after the runners and will not be timed.

The race will start at the McLaughlin Garden entrance on Western Avenue and continue onto Nichols Street to the intersection of Nicholas and Alpine streets before turning around and reversing the route back to the garden.

“This is a great 5K for people of all ages. While the race course provides for the needs of a competitive runner with just enough hill to make it interesting, it also is a great course for the fitness enthusiast who just wants to enjoy a morning run or walk before joining other community activities honoring Memorial Day,” said race director and former runner, Bonnie Trundy.
