AUBURN — In an opening day slugfest, Sam’s and Prudential played to a 28-28 tie in Auburn Suburban Little League minor division softball.
Prudential jumped out to an early lead behind the crafty hitting of Cassady Bussiere, Melissa Paulina and Taylor Newman, but Sam’s wouldn’t be denied. The big bats of Megan Verrill, Emily Kramarz and Abby Hart came through in the middle innings for Sam’s to keep the game within reach for the sandwich makers.
It looked as though Prudential had the game won when an Anna LeBlanc blast plated Madison Rush and Katherine Gilpatrick. But Sam’s answered in the bottom of the frame, led by Hannah Smith, Ella Perry and Alex Annear.
Hannah Olcott sparkled in the field for Prudential as did Courtney Larson of Sam’s.

Noah Moreshead launched AFF with a lead-off homer. Additional hits by Austin Cox, Kyle Herrald, Tyler Blanchard and Tyler Libby scored the runs. AFF’s pitching was a team effort.
