LEWISTON — The Gendron Franco Center will host the viewing of a TV5MONDE special that will take viewers around the world on a live, 25-hour tour exploring Francophone culture across the globe on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 21 and 22.
TV5MONDE broadcasts locally on channel 71 on Spectrum cable. The network is a sponsor of the Franco Center.
The hosts will welcome people from 23 major cities, including Paris, New Orleans, Sydney and Mumbai. Anyone not able to access TV5MONDE from home is welcome to join Franco Center staff and volunteers to view the programs on television in Heritage Hall on the corner of Oxford and Cedar streets. The show will be broadcast in French.
The “tour” opens at 7 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, Sept. 21, in Paris, France, and continues through 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22. The “Tour of the world of La Francophonie” begins on TV5MONDE´s roof in Paris. This first stage marks the start of 25 hours of live broadcasts from around the world, taking in 24 time zones. Hosts and their guests will highlight the major challenges for the French-speaking world today.
The Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar St., is handicapped accessible and is located in the “Little Canada” section of Lewiston, just across the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge from New Auburn.
