Local businesses participate in alcohol server training

LEWISTON – Healthy Androscoggin’s Project Unite! partnered with Auburn, Lewiston and Lisbon police departments and Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department to offer local alcohol licensees and establishments an opportunity to receive certified alcohol server and seller training.

Frank Lyons, of BC consultants, was the facilitator. Lyons has 29 years of experience in the liquor law enforcement field.

The training included primary Maine liquor and tobacco laws, tips on identifying and retaining fraudulent IDs, the importance of sound operating policies and liquor liability issues.

The benefits of this certified training include reduced sales to underage youth and intoxicated adults, reduced expenses by preventing motor vehicle crashes, investigating fights and other crimes related to alcohol use.

It may also meet the requirements of insurance carriers in order to receive business coverage.

Healthy Androscoggin is also offering a free responsible retail program for stores that sell alcohol.

The one-hour training is aimed at managers and owners to assist in improving compliance with local, state and federal laws.

Policies pertaining to sale of age-restricted products will also be covered.
