Local group heading to U.S. conference

LEWISTON – THRIVE, a collaboration between Maine’s Children’s Behavioral Services and Tri-County Mental Health, is sending 22 people to New Orleans, La., for the National Conference on Systems of Care from Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 1 to 3.

Members will participate in four presentations: “From Grassroots to State Initiatives: Why Trauma Informed is at the Core of What We Should All Be About,” “Stacking the Deck for a Resilient Hand,” “Trauma Informed Perspective of Families and the Development of a System of Care” and “Practice Based Evidence for Refugee and Immigrant Resilience in a Trauma Informed System of Care.”

A national award for the best public service announcement in the county will be presented during the conference. The public service announcement that the THRIVE youth group put together is among the top three nominations. The PSA was donated by Fox and it ran locally and nationally. It was totally youth written, performed and partially directed while Fox took care of the filming.
