SCARBOROUGH – With nature as their inspiration, artists who paint with oils, acrylics, watercolors or pastels are invited to participate in Fiddlehead Center for the Arts’ Family Paint Out: A Fresh Paint Event and Auction fundraiser on Saturday, May 20.

The event will celebrate local artists and the area’s natural environment. Artists are asked to create paintings in a six-hour period that will be auctioned off that evening, with proceeds benefiting the center.

Fiddlehead Center was established in 2001, with the first location on the Pineland campus, expanding to Scarborough in September 2005.

“With spring here, we thought it fitting to host a Fresh Paint Event and Auction as a fundraiser to support our new Scarborough location. Artists will blanket the surrounding areas to capture a wealth of inspirational settings on canvas this is, after all, Winslow Homer territory,” said Mary Jo Marquis, center executive director.

“In addition to the format of artists painting during the day, followed by a live auction of their piece that evening we have added a feature to the event that allows for families to participate and to provide children with opportunity to experience art. Ferry Beach in Scarborough will provide a location for families to bring their children and plein air paint as well,” said Marquis.

Painting supplies and materials will be provided and the children’s artwork will be displayed at the auction.

Painting will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A reception will begin at 5 p.m. with a live music and gallery exhibition of all the artists’ work. At 6:30 p.m., the auction will begin, led by auctioneer Jim Cyr of Cyr Auction Co. Artists will donate a portion or all of their proceeds to Fiddlehead Center.

Interested artists can acquire applications and more information at www.fiddleheadcenter.org or by calling 883-5720.
