Local roundup: Dirigo takes down Madison


MADISON — Riley Robinson poured 25 points into the net Thursday evening to lead Dirigo to a 52-46 win over Madison in an MVC boys’ tilt.

Kaine Hutchins chipped in for the Cougars (17-1) with 12 points in a well-balanced attack.

The Bulldogs (7-11) were paced by Chase Malloy with a solid 13-point performance.

Greenville 62, Rangeley 35

RANGELEY — Howie Stone piled up 23 points and Trevor Richards dropped in 13 as Greenville rolled over Rangeley 62-35 in a boys’ basketball game Thursday night.

Greenville (16-2) built a 22-14 lead at halftime on Matt DiAngelo’s 15 points. Michael Haley and Wyatt Dellavalle each had eight points for Rangeley (3-15).

Oceanside 72, Leavitt 45

TURNER — Hunter Grindle led the charge with 17 points and Isaiah Stone-Patterson helped out with 11 points as Oceanside shelved Leavitt 72-45 in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.

Oceanside jumped out to 34-22 lead by the half. For Leavitt (4-14), Eli Calder had nine points.

Oxford Hills 85, Mt. Blue 43

PARIS — Andrew Fleming had a triple-double as he led the Oxford Hills’ Vikings (11-7) with 15 points, 10 rebounds and assists in the 85-43 victory over Mt. Blue in boys’ basketball.

Dennis Sanborn had a career-high 14 points in the victory. Dalton Rice chipped in with 12 points. Mt. Blue’s (2-16) leading scorers were Zack Mittelstadt and Nate Backus, who each had 13 points.

Girls’ basketball

Rangeley 67, Greenville 28
RANGELEY —  After building a 10-point advantage in the first frame, Rangeley stayed in high gear and raced away to a 67-28 rout over Greenville in a EWC regular-season finale Thursday.

Tori Letarte led the Lakers (17-1) with 21 points, nine steals and five assists. Taylor Esty chipped in with 14 points, while Seve Deery-DeRaps added 10.

Ashley Mace led Greenville (5-12) with a strong 15-point performance.

Madison 53, Dirigo 44
MADISON —  Trailing by one after the first frame, Madison used a 19-6 second-quarter run to take control and raced away to post a 53-44 win over Dirigo in an  MVC girls’ basketball tilt Thursday.

Kirsten Wood led the Bulldogs (12-6) with 14 points and seven rebounds. Alex Jarvais chipped in with 12 points, while Kayla Bess added 11.

The Cougars (11-7) were paced by Kelsey Hutchins with 12 points, while Jessica Conant added nine. 

Spruce Mountain 59, Carrabec 32
NORTH ANSON —  Spruce Mountain went on a 25-5 tear in the third quarter and pulled away to record a 59-32 victory over Carrabec in girls’ basketball action Thursday.

Emily Keene led the undefeated Phoenix (18-0) with 13 points, while Alex Bessey and Emily Hogan each added nine.

The Cobras (14-4) were paced by Mickayla Willette and Emma Pluntke with 10 points apiece.

Mountain Valley 61, Mt. Abram 34
RUMFORD — After a slow start that saw each squad tally just five points in the opening frame, Mountain Valley used a 18-8 second-quarter run to seize control and hustled to post a 61-34 win over Mt. Abram in MVC basketball action.

Ashley Russell led the Falcons (6-12) with 12 points, while Katie Puiia tallied 10 and Kaitlyn Virgin added nine.

The Roadrunners (2-16) were paced by Olivia Ryan with seven points, their only player in double figures.

Oxford Hills 42, Mt. Blue 27

FARMINGTON — Anna Winslow dropped in 13 points to pace the Oxford Hills Vikings to the 42-27 victory over Mt. Blue in girls’ basketball.

Mikayla Morin dropped in 10 points for the Vikings.

Miranda Niceley led Mt. Blue with nine points, while teammates Emily Knowles and Caitlin Kane each had seven points.

Oxford Hills improves to 14-4 while Mt. Blue drops to 8-10.
