Local roundup: Mt. Abram girls' soccer shuts out Dirigo

DIXFIELD — Two goals were enough for Mt. Abram to defeat Dirigo 2-0 in girls’ soccer action Monday.

Alice Cockerham and Camryn Wahl scored the Roadrunners’ goals.

Dirigo (0-5-1) goalkeeper Katie Morse turned away 10 shots. Mt. Abram’s (3-3) Hailey Walker spurned one shot.

Hall-Dale 6, Mountain Valley 1

RUMFORD — Madisyn Smith’s hat trick paced Hall-Dale to a 6-1 girls’ soccer win over Mountain Valley on Monday.

All three of Smith’s goals came in the first half, and two occurred within 14 seconds of each other. Isabella Marino and Masie Gross also netted goals for the Bulldogs (3-2-1).

Taylor Henry tallied the Falcons’ only goal off an assist from Brooke Carver.

Lauren Sterling made 11 saves for Mountain Valley (0-6). Riley Johnson stopped three for Hall-Dale.

Winthrop 9, Telstar 0

WINTHROP — Four first-half goals and five in the second half gave the Winthrop girls’ soccer team a 9-0 win over Telstar on Monday.

Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone netted three of those goals. Sierra Huff and Kena Souza scored two apiece, and Natalie Frost and Madison Moore each had one.

Ramblers (2-4) goalkeepers Brooke Burnham (two saves) Samantha Moody (one) and Kelsie Cantwell (one) teamed for the shutout. Hattie Dotson stopped seven shots for Telstar (0-5-1).

Field hockey

Mountain Valley 8, Telstar 0

RUMFORD — Avery Sevigny scored three goals and assisted on two others in Mountain Valley’s 8-0 field hockey win over Telstar on Monday.

Rylee Sevigny added two goals for the Falcons (4-4), while Faith Riddick, Breanna Burgess and Alexi Baltrus contributed one apiece. Riddick and Burgess also had assists.

Perry Morton made 21 saves for Telstar (0-7), and Alyssa Akers only need to stop one shot for Mountain Valley.

Poland 3, Greely 1

CUMBERLAND — Higera Nawass put two goals in the net as Poland’s field hockey team took care of Greely, 3-1, on Monday.

Olivia Bell also had a goal for the Knights (2-3), while Hwida Nawass and Desiree Menard contributed assists.

Poland goalie Ashton Sturtevant stopped 10 shots. Elizabeth Brown and Kylie Rogers turned away a combined five shots for Greely (2-2-1).
