LIMESTONE — Maine School of Science and Mathematics student Kiri Strack-Grose of New Gloucester has been selected as a finalist in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.

The finalists are narrowed down from a pool of 16,000 semi-finalists to 15,000 finalists. Finalists are then selected based on their high school performance, PSAT and SAT scores. Only 8,200 of the chosen finalists will be awarded a National Merit Scholarship.
