Lomasney sinks Sea Dogs

PORTLAND (AP) – Former Red Sox draft pick Steve Lomasney’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning lifted the New Britain Rock Cats to a 6-5 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday.

Lomasney also had an RBI in the second.

After Chad Spann’s double sparked two Portland runs in the first, Felix Molina’s double ignited a four-run rally for New Britain (22-23) in the second.

The Sea Dogs (25-20) tied it and went ahead 5-4 when they cobbled together one run in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Trailing by one, Doug Deeds led off the ninth with a double off the right-field fence.

With one out, Lomasney lofted reliever Edgar Martinez’s first pitch high over the left-field wall.

New Britain’s Justin Olson (2-2) picked up the win in relief, while Levale Speigner notched his fourth save. Martinez (1-1) took the loss.
