The first cotton mill in Maine was built in Brunswick in 1809, only 20 years after the first one in America was built. Russell W. Eaton, agent of the Cabot mills, writes the Brunswick Record that he is anxious to get information about that early mill – which was burned in 1825 – and also a plan or sketch of it.

Yesterday an Auburn woman received a chain letter such as have been going the rounds for several months. The letter is similar to all the others being sent, warning the receiver that if she does not pray daily for nine days and send nine copies of the letter to others that misfortune will follow.

PHILADELPHIA – Are American kids becoming sissies?

John B. Kelly, a champion rower in his youth and the father of Princess Grace of Monaco, thinks so – in fact, he warns there is a danger the United States is raising a nation of weaklings.

The fault, Kelly says, lies with the schools which have drastically cut physical education programs. He urges boards of education to provide more athletic equipment, especially swimming pools. Kelly was U.S. director of physical fitness during World War II.
