100 years ago, 1910

MECHANIC FALLS — The matter of delinquent taxpayers was among the most important things which came up at the town meeting today. The matter of collecting the delinquent taxes, of which there are a great many, was finally left in the hands of the Selectmen.

50 years ago, 1960

Some 40 to 45 Lewiston High School students will participate in the Science Night to be held at the high school tonight under the sponsorship of the LHS Science Club.

Various exhibits and demonstrations will show the type of work in progress at the school during the year. Experiments on display will be in the fields of chemistry, physics, biology and general science.

Supervising the Science Night is T. Robert O’Donnell, adviser to the science club.


25 years ago, 1985

A committee sympathetic to the needs of social-service agencies listened to four agency directors made a pitch for a share of Lewiston’s $1-million 1985 Community Development Block Grant.

The CD Citizens Advisory Committee took no action Thursday night following presentations by Pathways Inc., of Auburn, Salvation Army, YWCA Intervention Program and Hope Haven Gospel Mission.

The requests are a few of the 17 made for public-service funding under the city’s CD program.
