Before a very small audience last evening in Odd Fellows hall and under the auspices of the Auburn Board of Trade, a telephone lecture was given by Edwin W. Pierce, chief clerk in the general commercial superintendent’s office of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company of Boston. The lecture was very interesting and illustrated by many lantern slides. These slides showed the offices in different parts of the country, the method by which calls are made, the means of recording a long distance call and many other interesting features.

The Lewiston City Council will pick up where it left off last March and discuss whether the city charter should be amended to provide for an elected, rather than appointed, School Committee.

When the City Council meets Tuesday, it will be asked by Mayor Alfred A. Plourde for permission to form a special committee to submit a proposal to the council no later than Aug. 5 to amend the charter for an elected School Committee. At a meeting last March, the council tabled action on such a proposal.
