Loren W. Durrell


FARMINGTON – Loren W. “Snooky” Durrell, 80, of Middle Street, Farmington, died Thursday morning, May 18, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Farmington on May 8, 1926, a son of Loren Oliver and Ida Josephine (DeJay) Durrell. He received his education in Farmington schools and married Eldora Thomas in October of 1946. She died May 7, 2005.

Mr. Durrell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had worked in the woods and as a truck driver. He was a longtime clerk at the Farmington Farmer’s Union, and had also worked at the brickyard in West Farmington.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and working around his house. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Glenn Durrell and his wife, Gloria, of Farmington, Darlene Sterry and her husband, Rob, of Farmington, Jerry Durrell and his fiancee, Wendy of New Sharon, Cecil Durrell and his wife, Loree, of Farmington, Loren “Duke” Durrell and his wife, Lorraine, of New Sharon, Sandra Coburn and her husband, Mike, of Sabattus, and Elaine Whelpley and her husband, Mike, of West Farmington; a brother, Herbert “Pete” Durrell of Farmington; and his cat, Angel.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian and Bernice; three brothers, Calvin, Willie and Carl; cats, Twiggy and Jake; and his dog, Chico.
