LEWISTON – Loretta L. Soucy, 83, of 200 Stetson Road, Auburn, died Thursday, Jan. 25, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a short illness.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., on Feb. 28, 1923, the daughter of Georges Albert and Stella Rose (Carrier) Roy, and had been a resident of this community for most of her life.

She graduated from Mont Merici Academy in Waterville and attended Bliss Business College and Auburn Maine School of Commerce.

She married Henry Leo Soucy on Sept. 2, 1946, and he died on May 18, 1951. She had worked for her father at the Georges A. Roy grocery store on Lincoln Street in Lewiston. She later worked as a secretary in the personnel department at Bates Mill and Libbey Mill.

She was a member of St. Anne Sodality at St. Peter’s, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary and was treasurer of the local chapter of AARP.

She enjoyed the theater, especially musicals, line dancing, ballroom dancing, dining out with friends and family and working on crossword puzzles. But her sport was shopping. She loved it and she was good at it, as all who were close to her knew.

She is survived by one daughter, Louise Gillespie, and her husband, William, of Brunswick; two granddaughters, Aimee Bonacorsi, Esquire of Waltham, Mass., and Dr. Carrie Bonacorsi of Baltimore, Md.; and one brother, Dr. Raynald Roy, and his wife, Marguerite, of Auburn and Florida.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Roy.
