AUBURN — Lorraine M. Bellavance (neé Metayer) of Auburn died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, July 7, at The Chapman House, where she had been a resident for three years. She was 84.

She was born in Lewiston on June 28, 1934, daughter of Norman and Gertrude Metayer. Lorraine is a graduate of Lewiston High School and married Louis Bellavance of Auburn on May 30, 1956. Her greatest joy was in her five children, and spending time with family. In her final years, she also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and fellow residents at The Chapman House.

Away from the home, Lorraine worked at the Knapp Shoe factory in Lewiston, and for many years as a hostess, waitress and bookkeeper at Sim’s Restaurant in Auburn. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Marco’s Restaurant in Lewiston, and as a receptionist for Robert Limoges Dentistry and L-A Internal Medicine.

Now in the arms of her creator, Lorraine joins husband, Louis, who proceeded her in 1983, and her two eldest children: Mark, 1995, and Paula Poulin, 2006.

She is survived by her younger brother, Buzzy Metayer, and her remaining children: Eric and his wife, Diane, of Lewiston; Sheila Harrington and her husband, Duke, of Sumner; and Kirk, who resides in Poland. Also mourning her loss while celebrating her life are five grandsons: Dennis, David, Quinn Poulin, Zachary and Benjamin, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her longtime companion, George Stevens, of Lewiston.

Lorraine’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff and residents of The Chapman House for their friendship and compassionate care. Despite Lorraine’s failing health, they truly made her final years a blessing.
