Lucette M. Burton
1916 – 2010
FARMINGTON — Lucette Marie Burton, 94, (due to leap year,) of Farmington, died early Sunday, Feb. 28, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center.
She was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Pau, France, to Cornelis and Madeleine (Larribeau) Poerstamper. After her family moved to the United States in 1918, she grew up in Detroit, Mich., graduating from South Eastern High School and the Detroit Institute of Secretarial Sciences.
She and her husband, James, moved to Portland in 1946. She worked as an executive secretary to the president of Maine Medical Center and secretary to the MMC medical staff, until her retirement in 1979. In 1990, she moved to Farmington, eventually becoming a resident of Pierce House on Main Street. She was an active volunteer at Franklin Memorial Hospital for many years. She was also a member of Old South UCC Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hayden of Farmington and Joanne Whisler of Edgewater, Fla.; four grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and the loving staff and residents of Pierce House.
She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1988.
