Lyceum curator, Tammie Grieshaber, said, “Jewelry is a very personal form of art that can reflect a mood or bring back a special memory. This exhibit has been rolling around in my mind for several years, and I’m so pleased that it is finally a reality.”
Jewelry as an art form focuses on design and the unique use of materials. Precious metals such as gold and silver, and gemstones, are well represented in BLING! But there are also less traditional materials such as wood, sand, paper, sea glass and enamel.
Design is queen of the exhibit. And nature is the muse. Kate Bauman Mess’ “Barnacles” are a beautiful representation of those creatures growing in the ocean. Peggy Johnson’s silver insects are intricately accurate and captivating. Mary Pongonis has a patent on her unique ear wires. Sarah Shepley’s colors are right from the spring garden.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, there will also be a BLING! and Chocolate Evening from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 14. Maine Gourmet Chocolates will be the co-host.
