Maine Music Society director is L-A Rotary speaker

AUBURN — John Corrie, artistic director of the Maine Music Society, will be the guest speaker at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The meeting is from noon to 1 p.m. at the Village Inn, 165 High St.

Corrie has had his current role since 2006. He holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Northwestern University School of Music and Yale University School of Music. A Fulbright-Hays Scholar, he studied organ and harpsichord at the Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna, Austria, in 1972-73.

Corrie has been teaching at Bates College since 1982 where he is a lecturer in music. He has been the college choir director since 1986. Along with his responsibilities in the Music Department, he has been teaching private voice lessons since 1991. He also teaches private lessons on organ and harpsichord and piano.

Corrie was appointed organist at the Bates College Chapel in January 2005. He served as organist and choir director at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Falmouth from 1982 to 2007.

He conducts the Maine Music Society Chorale, the Maine Music Society Chamber Singers, and the Maine Music Society Chamber Orchestra. In June 2014, he was appointed organist and choir director of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Yarmouth.

Corrie has been a member of the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing since 1995. He served as president of the State of Maine Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing from 2007-12 and has served as the New England regional governor for the state of Maine for the National Association of Teachers of Singing from 2008-12.
