LEWISTON — The winning alliance at the 2017 Pine Tree District FIRST Robotics Competition Saturday included two Maine teams, as well as one from New Hampshire.
The event was held at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston.
Infinite Loop, the team from Messalonskee High School in Oakland, was alliance captain and earned 68 district points — the most of any team at the event. It won the Entrepreneurship Award.
Mechanical Mayhem, a homeschooled team from Milford, New Hampshire, earned 64 points, winning the Chairman’s Award.
The Collective, a team from Waterville, was also part of the winning alliance. This team earned 41 points.
The Rookie All-Star Award went to a team from Pittsfield. It was part of an alliance eliminated in the semifinal round. It was also the highest-seeded rookie team at the event.
The Rookie Inspiration Award went to a team from Bucksport.
The Blue Crew, a team from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, was part of an alliance that lost by four points in the quarterfinal round. Adviser Richard Wilde said that alliance had three of the top four scores of the meet.
SMART, the team from Spruce Mountain High School in Jay, won the Safety and Team Spirit awards.
Adviser Daniel Lemieux said their robot had some issues and the electrical system had to be rebuilt Saturday morning.
Lemieux said the team stayed focused on safety and supporting one another in a very emotional situation.
