SWANVILLE (AP) — A Waldo County man has been recognized by the sheriff’s department for saving the life of another man who’d become trapped under a tractor-trailer.
Daniel Littlefield was presented a letter of thanks and a certificate of recognition on Monday for his heroic efforts on Sunday.
Authorities say 48-year-old Thomas Benner, of Swanville, was working under his tractor-trailer when the jack malfunctioned and the trailer collapsed onto his chest.
His family was unable to free him and called 911.
Littlefield, who owns a wrecking business, was working on a vehicle at a house nearby. Before emergency personnel arrived, he was able to use his wrecker to lift the tractor-trailer and Benner’s family pulled him free.
Benner is in the hospital with several injuries but is expected to recover.
