Making jewelry, beekeeping among adult ed classes in RSU 16


MECHANIC FALLS — RSU 16 Adult Education has announced several upcoming learning opportunities.

Registration may be completed online at, in person at 129 Elm St. or by mail at PO Box 129, Mechanic Falls, ME 04256.

College Preparation, diploma classes and HiSET testing begin anytime. Call 207-345-3217 to learn more or to make an appointment.

Beaded Jewelry: The class will teach the basics of wire beading to create a set of handmade jewelry. 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 28 and March 14. Tuition: $38; deadline to register, Feb. 7.

Beekeeping: Students will learn more about raising honey bees from Mary Jane Dillingham of MisBeeHaven Farm in Poland, from benefits and expenses to how to access the best local resources. 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24. Tuition: $12.

Career Exploration and Job Searching: The class will teach strategies, interview skills, resume writing, career aptitude and interest assessments. Six-week sessions by appointment/$50. Free to unemployed residents.

Digital Photography – The Impact of Lighting: Lighting can affect pictures in  different ways. From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15; $12.

Heatpumps: Bill Bouchard, master HVAC technician, will explain the benefits, types and costs associated with this alternative heating and cooling source. From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25; $7.

Notary Public: The two-session class will provide information to add notary public to a personal and professional tool kit. Participants will leave with a completed application, ready to be certified by the town clerk. From 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 12 and 26; $24.

Substitute Teacher Training: Participants will hear more about what the opportunity entails. From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30; free, but preregistration necessary.
