Man accused of setting a fire at former girlfriend’s residence

LIVERMORE – A Jay man was arrested this weekend in connection with a fire set late Saturday night in the yard of a former girlfriend’s house on Hathaway Hill Road, state fire investigator Edward Hastings IV said Monday.

The fire was started in a wood pile and a vehicle also burned in the driveway, he said.

Ryan Ridley, 28, was arrested on charges of arson and domestic violence criminal mischief, Hastings said.

Ridley is also accused of ramming a second vehicle in the driveway with his vehicle, he said. Damage to that vehicle is estimated at less than $2,000, he said.

Ridley’s bail was set at $25,000 cash Sunday at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, Hastings said.

His bail was reduced Monday to $1,000 cash and a Maine pretrial service agreement, or a $25,000 piece of real estate and a pretrial agreement, a corrections officer said.

Ridley was still at the jail late Monday afternoon.

Livermore Fire Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department and Jay Police Department all responded to the scene late Saturday.
