NEW SHARON — A Livermore Falls man remained in a Skowhegan jail Monday afternoon after making an initial court appearance earlier on kidnapping and other charges involving an incident Sunday night at the home of an ex-partner on the Starks Road.
Police responded Sunday evening after receiving a call that a man was holding a baby to apparently get the mother to return to the home where he threatened to harm her, said Lt. Niles Yeaton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.
Jeromy C. Merchant, 29, of Livermore Falls went to the home and found another man baby-sitting the 16-month-old baby. He stayed at the home waiting for the mother to return and apparently withheld the baby to get the mother to return home, Yeaton said.
The baby sitter was able to get out of the house and called police. He also told Cpl. Stephen Charles and Deputies Heidi Wilcox and Chris Chase where to find the baby and they were able to go in and get the baby out as Merchant hid in a compartment of a closet, he said.
Merchant did have a knife and made threats to harm people, and allegedly threatened to harm the mother, but no one was injured in the incident, he said.
He faces charges of kidnapping, terrorizing, burglary and violation of bail, Yeaton added.
