Man gets off train, mugged

LEWISTON – Police are looking for two men who robbed a train conductor early Wednesday morning just off Main Street.

The Pan Am Railways conductor had stopped the train just after it crossed Main Street and was inspecting the brakes when two men came out the woods and attacked him, police said.

Lt. Mike McGonagle described the two men as young, between 17 and 25 years old, and wearing dark clothing.

They robbed the conductor of a small amount of money and ran off.

They were last seen heading toward Tall Pines Drive and the River Valley apartment complex.

“We’re still investigating and talking to people at the Irving and in Tall Pines to see if there were any witnesses,” McGonagle said.

He declined to identify the conductor but said he was a Poland resident.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Brian O’Malley at 795-9000.
