Marcia Leslie Leavitt


SARASOTA, Fla. – Marcia Leslie Leavitt, 71, Weld Road, Dixfield, passed away April 1.

She was born April 20, 1934, in Buckfield, daughter of Sherburn and Helen DeCoster Leslie. She graduated as class salutatorian from Dixfield Regional High School in 1952, and attended Farmington State Teachers College, where she was a member of Phi Nu Sorority.

She sang in the college chorus and performed in musical productions. She was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church and the church choir. She was an artist who worked in both oils and watercolors, using her creativity to bring joy to others. She was a member of the Searchlight Club, and a member of the Rumford Area Performing Arts. She retired as a teacher’s assistant at Dixfield Elementary School after 27 years of dedication to the children. In recent years, she had been a winter resident of Sarasota, Fla.

She loved to cook and knit and spend time doing simple domestic activities on her family farm. She enjoyed gardening, charity work, swimming in the river, animals, outdoor activities and the simple beauty of our natural world. She had many friends in all walks of life, and will be remembered as an angel. She shared her gifts of grace with every living thing, and left a legacy of kindness never to be forgotten. She found goodness in everyone and never failed to find some positive attribute at each step along life’s way.

Survivors include her husband, Stephen W.; daughters, Stephanie and her husband, John Dumont, of Bailey Island and Susan and her husband, Bard Warren, of Prospect; sons, William and his wife, Maureen, of Rumford and Robert and his wife, Angela, of Dixfield; a sister, Marilyn Sly of Mystic, Conn.; a brother, Edward Leslie of South Windham; and 10 grandchildren, Brett and Emily Dumont, Rachael and Jacob Warren, Kristen and Kylie Leavitt, and Nathan, Collin, Ashley, and Haley Leavitt.
