BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) – A Vermont Yankee nuclear plant control room operator has been fired after testing positive for marijuana, authorities said.

The employee, whose name wasn’t released, was given a random blood test July 15 and dismissed Wednesday when the results were returned, according to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The testing was part of plant owner Entergy Nuclear’s “fitness for duty” testing program, according to Neil Sheehan, a spokesman for the NRC. He declined to give the level of the marijuana in the person’s bloodstream.

Energy spokesman Larry Smith refused to say how long the person was employed at the plant, and where he or she worked.
