NORWAY – Marion A. (Gatchell) Card, 84, passed away Friday, May 12, at the Norway Rehabilitation Center with her loving family by her side.

She was born on June 18, 1921, to Victor and Annie (Timberlake) Gatchell of Turner. Marion attended schools in Lewiston and graduated from South Paris High School in 1942.

She married Frank “Pete” Card on Jan. 16, 1943.

Marion was a member of the South Paris Alumni Association and the South Paris Democratic Party.

Together with her husband, Marion ran the family farm, growing and selling vegetables. She later worked at Burnham & Morrill in South Paris, and the Francine Shoe Co. and Miller Shoe in Norway.

Marion enjoyed spending time with her family, watching all types of sports and playing bingo. As an avid Red Sox fan, Marion made many trips to Fenway Park to cheer on her beloved baseball team. Marion’s prayers were finally answered when her beloved Red Sox clinched the World Series in 2004.

She is survived by two sons, Richard “Peanut” Card and his wife, Carol, of Sahuarita, Ariz., and Peter “Herky” Card and his wife, Jodelle, of South Paris; five daughters, Ann Smith and her husband, Wayne, of Oxford, Jackie Cox and her fianc, Craig Goodwin, of Georgetown, Del., Nancy Norton of South Paris, Cathy Stevenson and her husband, Brent, of Oxford, and Brenda Moore and her husband, Kevin, of Oxford; 20 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her special friends, Mary Springer, Bertha Sampson, Tura Martin and Hazel Abbott.

Marion was predeceased by her husband, Pete Card; daughter, Barbara Card; granddaughter, Lisa Card; and son-in-law, Barry Norton.

Marion’s family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center for their kindness and support and the wonderful care that was extended to Marion and her family during a difficult time.
