AUBURN — Marion E. Walker Hammond, a former resident of33 Sullivan Road in Greene and Schooner Estates in Auburn, passed away at the Hospice House Monday, May 24, with her loving family by her side.
She was born April 9, 1920, to Charles W. Walker and Bessie Bubier Walker. She married Russell P. Hammond Jr. on Aug. 9, 1942. Together, they raised four children. She worked for many years as a nurse and then at Raytheon, J.C. Penney and Knapp Shoe.
Her favorite past times were spending time with family and friends, eating desserts and lobster, crocheting quilt squares for the Catholic Charities of Maine and volunteering thousands of hours for Central Maine Medical Center. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Greene for decades.
She will long be remembered for her love of anything purple and her infectious laugh. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Theriault and her husband, Linden, of Greene and Carol Hawkes and her husband, Edward, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her sons, Gary Hammond and his wife, Martha, of Sidney and Charles Hammond and his wife, Carolyn, of Greene; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Villa Lavorgna of Windham, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her stepmother, Lynda Hathaway Walker; her husband, Russell in 1995; a grandson, Linden R. Theriault; a brother, Charles A. Walker; her sisters, Faith Halliday and Althea Walker; and a stepsister, Audrey Bradford.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Boulanger, the nurses on C2 @ St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Dr. Roger Austin and the nurses at the Hospice House for their love and caring for Marion in her final weeks.
