Marjorie E. Smith


1924 – 2014

LIVERMORE FALLS — Marjorie E. Smith, 90, a resident of Campground Road in Livermore Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Strong on July 2, 1924, the daughter of Ralph Eustis and Marion (Richardson) Eustis. Marjorie was valedictorian of her class, graduating in 1942 from Strong High School. She continued her education at Farmington Normal Teachers College and graduated in 1946.

On July 1, 1946, in Strong, she married her husband, Duane C. Smith; he passed away in 1982.

Marjorie worked teaching home economics at Jay High School and taught the first boys’ home economics class. She was a coordinator in the Central Maine area for the state of Maine Bookmobile; she also worked and retired as a librarian of the Maine State Library.

Marjorie was a member of the Livermore Falls Woman’s Club and the Livermore Falls Historical Society, a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Strong and a volunteer at Norlands in Livermore.


She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Fish and her husband, Walter, of Canton; her son, Joe Smith and his wife, Nancy, of Livermore Falls; four grandchildren, Marshall and Bill Fish, Julie Rand and her husband, Patrick, and John Trask and his companion, Linda Small; three great-grandchildren, Walter Fish and Kyle and Riley Trask; her brother, Richard Eustis, of Old Town; and her niece, Deb Eustis-Grandy and her husband, Matt.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Duane; and her sister-in-law, Libby Eustis.
