LEWISTON — Mary “Betty Field” Torgersen, 68, of Lewiston, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 25, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Caribou on Jan. 27, 1946, a daughter of the late Bert and Edwich (Doustou) Morneault. She attended schools in Caribou, graduating from Caribou High School and moved down to central Maine in the 1960s. In 1990, she married Jim Torgersen, who passed away in 1998. She worked as a bartender for several years at The South End Club in Lewiston, where she was also a member.
Mary could always be found crocheting in her spare time and she also had a great love for her dog, “Teddy,” who recently passed away. One of her greatest hobbies was dealing with anything related to Indians, but most of all she cherished spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her five children, Regina Silverman DeWind of Greenville S.C., Tina Booth of Syndey, Hiram Booth and wife, Jen, of Lewiston, Lisa Field Cerrato of Lewiston and Maurice Field Jr. and wife, Amanda Birkbeck Field, of Lewiston; grandchildren, Christie Harkins, Arthur Booth, Danielle and Britany Bailey, Brandon Cundiff, Shizzelle Booth, Celina, Chelsea, Elizabeth, Angelica, Veglia and Iesha Field and Kirstyn, Tyler and Ryan Birkbeck; two brothers, Jack and Ed Morneault; a sister, Juanita Pelletier; special daughter-in-law, Karen Cundiff; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jim Torgersen; brothers, Leo and Reno Morneault; granddaughter, Maurissa Field; and two sons-in-law, Daniel Landry and Ed DeWind.
