1943 – 2014
LEWISTON — Mary Lou Yates, 71, of Mechanic Falls, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born in Lewiston on March 16, 1943, the daughter of Eugene and Edna (Foster) Pratt. She attended schools in Mechanic Falls and obtained her GED in 1992. She married Arnold Yates on Sept. 12, 1959.
Mary Lou worked at the Marcal Paper Mill until it closed in the 1980s. She then worked at Oxford Marking, moving on to Wal-Mart in Auburn when it opened, until her retirement.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Riley, reading watching movies, going to Kathy’s Restaurant for lunch with her friends, going to the library and shopping in her younger years.
She is survived by her children, Lorrie Yates Verrill and her husband, Tom, of Mechanic Falls, Tony Yates and his wife, Celia, of Lewiston and Linda Yates Gosselin and her husband, Dan, of Oxford; her grandchildren, Jake, Lacy, Josh and Toni; along with her precious great-grandkids, Lucas and Riley, with whom she loved to visit and spend time. She is also survived by her good friend, Sandra Ballard, who was like a sister to her; as well as many other relatives and in-laws, including her good friend, Nancy Pratt-Knowlton.
She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; her brother, Ronald; and her very good friend, Evelynn Biardi.
