Donation supports STEM in schools
AUGUSTA — The Maine Commission for Community Service announced recently a $35,000 donation from Time Warner Cable that will support STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Service Learning projects in Maine schools.
"This generous donation will allow us to leverage federal dollars coming into the state dollar for dollar, making the impact of this contribution all the more significant for Maine's school children," said Michael Ashmore, grants officer at MCCS. In addition to larger awards of $10,000 there will be five $1,000 awards available for teachers just getting their feet wet with Service Learning.
Time Warner Cable donated the funding as part of its new science and technology education initiative, Connect a Million Minds. Time Warner Cable launched the initiative last fall to introduce youth to opportunities and resources that inspire them to develop science, technology, engineering and math skills.
Schools will be able to apply for grant funds through the Maine Commission for Community Service. Interested parties should visit www.maineservicecommission.gov for details.

MANY organizations have writing campaigns and usually the editorial staff weeds them out. Don't you wonder why a physics professor in Montana is even reading the SJ? I do.
