MOUNT VERNON — Maxine Edwards, 70, of Mount Vernon, died Friday, Dec. 28, at her home.
Maxine was born Dec. 18, 1942, in Greenville, the daughter of William and Phyllis (Tompkins) Ryder.
She grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School in 1961. She attended IBM Business School in Portland and returned to Greenville. She married George Edwards in 1963, and they lived at Pittston Farm for four years, where George was a Maine Game Warden. She and George moved to Mount Vernon, where they raised their children and were an active part of their community.
Maxine held a variety of jobs, but her work as a case worker for Uplift was the most fulfilling and rewarding to her. She had a kind and generous heart and was always helping and taking care of others, often sending secret gifts to those in need.
She spoke her mind freely and truthfully and loved deeply and unconditionally. She was the life of the party and will be remembered for her love of life and people. She was a great friend to many.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Rebecca Hooper and her husband, Stephen, of Vienna and Amy Edwards and her significant other, Chris Osgood, of New Vineyard; her granddaughters, Taylor Berry of New Vineyard and Clarissa Hooper of Vienna; and many friends of all ages.
She was predeceased by her son, Billy in 1972; and her husband, George, in 2009.
