WINTHROP — Lauren Margaret McHatten, a senior at Winthrop High School, has been selected to receive the 2010 Maine Principal’s Association Principal’s Award. She is the daughter of Cliff and Lynn McHatten.
During her four years at Winthrop High School, she has maintained an outstanding scholastic record while also participating in many co-curricular activities.
McHatten has been a member of the tennis team her sophomore through senior years and a member of the field hockey team all four years, and was elected co-captain her senior year. She has also been a member of the alpine ski team all four years.
In her junior year, she made the Maine Ski Team and placed second in the giant slalom at the Eastern High School Championships, State Class C. In addition to her sporting activities, McHatten has also found time for the Latin Club, and was elected vice-president her senior year. She was a Dirigo Girls State member her junior year and was Student Council president her junior and senior years. She was also named a Student Representative to the Winthrop Board of Education her senior year.
McHatten has served on the board of directors of the Marlee Fund, a nonprofit scholarship fund. She plans to attend college, where she plans to play a sport.
On April 3, McHatten and Principal Karen Criss will attend an honors luncheon in Bangor where they will join other MPA Principal’s Award winners from across the state. At the conclusion of the luncheon, drawings will be held for $1,000 scholarships, which all attending honorees will be eligible to receive.
