LEWISTON — Anyone with expired, unused or unwanted medications can get rid of them safely at a free medication disposal event for Androscoggin County. The event will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Lewiston High School.
It will be a drive-through operation and there will be police officers on-site to supervise the collection of the medications. Expired or unwanted prescriptions, vitamins, veterinary medications, homeopathic treatments and over the counter medicines will be accepted. When possible, bring medications in original packing to aid with drug identification.
Mercury thermometers, needles, syringes or electronic equipment will not be accepted.
The event is being coordinated by the Lewiston-Auburn Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, Lewiston Police Department, Auburn Police Department, Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, Healthy Androscoggin, Lewiston and Auburn Public Schools, St. Mary’s Medical Center Pharmacy, the Central Maine Medical Center’s Pharmacy and School of Nursing, SeniorsPlus, the Lewiston Housing Authority and the Auburn Housing Authority.
