Members sought for youth advisory council

LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston announces that members are being sought for the 2010-2011 Lewiston Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) year.

Youth who reside in Lewiston are encouraged to apply for membership on the council, and applications will be made available at Lewiston High School, St. Dominic Regional High School, Lewiston Middle School, the Lewiston City Administrator’s Office, 27 Pine St., and the Lewiston Recreation Department, 65 Central Ave). The deadline for applications is May 14.

To be considered, an individual must be a Lewiston resident and a high school student or home schooled student in grades nine through 12 or at the time of application or an eighth-grade student who will be entering grade nine in the upcoming academic year. Current members may reapply.

A Selection Committee will review all submitted LYAC applications, conduct group interviews and appoint up to 15 youth. The committee will make its selection by the last Friday in June, and selected youth will be notified, then appointed during a July Lewiston City Council meeting.

LYAC, in partnership with the Lewiston Firefighters Association, is planning the first youth summit for Friday, April 16, for Androscoggin County high school students. They will debut a DVD they’ve put together as a city image booster titled, “Lewiston in the Eyes of Youth.”
